Blame-Shifting and Capitalizing on Fear with Dr. Karyne Messina (Part 1)
Quote: “The faults and deceitful things that happen with populist leaders is that they say all kinds of outrageous things.” Dr. Karyne Messina
This was such a great interview packed with so much interesting information that we decided to turn it into a 2-part series. Be sure to tune in again next week for part II.
We have seen a major shift in the political landscape over the last several years. It seems that we have become fairly desensitized to hearing outrageous statements made by those in power. On this episode of Authentic Living with Roxanne, we are thrilled to welcome back Dr. Karyne Messina to talk about populist leaders and how using blame-shifting can systematically create chaos in order to divide the parties and keep everyone off balance.
Karyne is a licensed psychologist, psychoanalyst, and author. Her previous books include Misogyny, Projective Identification, and Mentalization: Psychoanalytic, Social and Institutional Manifestations (Routledge, 2019) and Aftermath: Healing from the Trump Presidency, Washington, DC (IPI Press, 2020). Her latest book, Resurgence of Global Populism: A Psychoanalytic Study of Projective Identification, Blame-Shifting and the Corruption of Democracy (Routledge Publishing, August 2022), offers evidenceof how populists can wrest power and sow discord while eroding democratic processes in a slow decline towards authoritarianism.
